On Sunday the veteran wheelchair racer and Össur South Africa's national sales manager Ernst van Dyk took the second place on the podium after defending his 4-year consecutive winning streak at the 2019 United Airlines NYC Half Marathon. The 45-year-old crossed the line with a time of 52:08, one minute faster than his winning time of 53:12 in 2018.

The 20-year-old American Daniel Romanchuk claimed the first place with a time of 51:35, while the 33-year old American Aaron Pike had to settle for third place after battling a sprint finish with Van Dyk.

We had a great race fighting for the lead and position. It’s a tough climbers race but still a great test,” said Van Dyk.

The seven-time Paralympian will take some confidence into the next leg of the World Marathon Majors series at the 123rd Boston Marathon on 15 April 2019 where he will be looking for a record 11th career victory in the iconic race. In his 19 Boston appearances, Van Dyk has placed on the podium all but two times, including ten wins, five runner-ups, and a pair of third place finishes.
