WATCH: Para-Athlete Maria Combrink Shines On SABC 2’s ‘The Ladies Club’

Maria Combrink on The Ladies Club

On a recent episode of SABC 2’s The Ladies Club the show featured and hosted the inspiring, game-changing para-athlete Maria Combrink.

Combrink is a below-knee amputee and a true ambassador of Life Without Limitations who debuted at the Para-Athletics World Championships in 2017, representing South Africa in shot put and discus.

A hiking accident left her with a crushed right foot, forcing her to later amputate. She then had to make a few adjustments to her life, but that did not stop her from taking part in sports. She’s not new to the sporting world having taken part in action cricket, action netball, basketball, and underwater hockey.

She holds the African record in shot-put, throwing 9.61m in the women’s F44 category. She was also crowned the 2017 Disabled Sportswoman of the Year at the Gauteng Sports Awards.

Watch the episode below:

Maria uses Össur’s Cheetah Xplore foot as her day-to-day foot, as well as when she is competing in athletics and training weights in the gym: “The foot is light, very responsive and can take on any outdoor conditions I put it through. The Xplore is definitely my 'go to' for any situation.” She also recently started using Össur's new Pro-Flex LP Align foot for special occations: Adjustment to the heel height is wonderfully uncomplicated. The foot gives excellent feedback and is probably one of the most responsive feet I have worn, it makes walking with high heels after almost 8 years a breeze.”

She also uses Össur’s Flex-Run with Nike Sole: “I use this foot when I am training on the track. The energy return on this foot does not only make my sprinting sessions worthwhile but also make sprinting almost effortless and is definitely a winner for the longer 5km distance. This foot also handles any outdoor condition and accompanies me on all my diving trips.”
